A new blog begins!

I just Called, to say I love you.

From The Woman In Red, by Stevie Wonder.

Twenty years ago [ish], when I visited a record shop on a family outing in a city far from home, this music album tape was one of the few on sale in my own language. It was before my teens, but I put it forward as one of my two choices that I would buy. Little did I realise how wonderful this song and, the Stevie Wonder album would be.. only the unmatched feeling of such a joy listening to this theme..

Of course, as ever, something spoils the dream. On this occasion it was a ‘foreign’ native pinching my bottom – though I was not even a young teen…

Here are a couple more themes that always travelled far and beyond, for some reason, and their theme song transcends all those 20-30 years.

Themes, with melodies like these often spring like a well into our unconscious imaginings.

This tune, later in years to inspire, needs no images.

The other Teardrop song I knew, growing up, was the Womack and Womack one. Thanks to a brilliant purchase of Now That Is Music – ‘currently’ it was at No. 5 or something.

So those were the catchy beginnings, with a few strays in between, including the hit Unchained Melody duo and this lasting beautiful, yet muted songbird.

From there on, there was only one band to listen to for the next few years…. as we rode the car to school.

The Miracle!

From there onwards, came the..grunge & hippy days?

,

the Mama’s and the Papa’s California Dreamin’ and the Summer of Love 1967 & ’69 album.

and I fell in love with this album and started making compilation albums.

And that was it for a while, and I returned to being a fan of music really only when hearing the Indigo Girls.

Of course, there were beautiful songs in between and I’ve missed a few here and there; but overall, they never had such a hold, maybe perhaps until later…

Music had become about the beautiful; not the clever lyrics, the awkward themes.

And so it is that I could listen to this theme, over again and over.

Enjoy!
